This month there are two recipients: The Caroline Fund and Central Vermont Basic Education
The Caroline Fund was created in 1998 to honor Caroline who was killed in Essex Junction, Vt in an incident of domestic violence. This fund is dedicated to helping women in crisis situations who cannot find help elsewhere. We also offer free walk-in legal aid clinics in Burlington, a program of grants for women who meet our criteria for financial aid and we have scholarship help toward pursuing post-secondary technical education. Central Vermont Adult Basic Education ( CVABE) serves over 500 adults annually, ages 16 – 90 + in Washington, Orange and Lamoille counties. Our free education services include: Basic sills in reading, writing, math, computer literacy, English Language learning, and preparation for U.S. citizenship, High school diploma and GED credential program, academic skill readiness for work, technical training and/ or college. Nearly 100% of students are low income. There are 6 learning centers and we have a teaching staff and over 100 trained volunteers.
