The Black social gospel that shaped Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of America contended with a version of Christianity rooted in white supremacy. This tension continues today and challenges Christians, and all people of faith, to cast new visions of a multicultural Beloved Community for our time. On this MLK Day weekend, let us hear Dr. King’s challenge to people of faith to reject false gods and to join the struggle for freedom. Music will be provided by the Acapella Choir of the Montpelier Community Gospel Choir.
