2021 Sabbatical Common Read
Hello!
I invite you to join me in reading any of the following books during my three months of sabbatical – July, August, and September 2021. I have paired two sets of books that approach the topics of race/policing/safety and nature/climate crisis from different perspectives. I plan to lead a discussion on each of these pairings later in the fall when I return from sabbatical. You can join the discussion having read one, all, or none of the books!
Pair 1 on Race/Policing/Safety

Pair 2 on Nature/Climate Crisis

Rev. Joan
P.S. Below are some other titles I have on my “to-read” list during sabbatical in case you’re interested and want to join along. Most of these will probably end up making an appearance in a sermon or two throughout the coming church year.
How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy by Jenny Odell
Black is the Body: Stories from my Grandmother’s Time, My Mother’s Time, and Mine by Emily Bernard
The Stars in Our Pockets: Getting Lost and Sometimes Found in the Digital Age by Howard Axelrod
Daring Democracy: Igniting Power, Meaning, and Connection for the America We Want by Frances Moore Lappé and Adam Eichen
Rooted and Rising: Voices of Courage in a Time of Climate Crisis edited by Leah D. Schade and Margaret Bullitt-Jonas
