We often celebrate winter solstice for the returning of the light – but the darkness offers its own profound gifts. In the cycles of the natural world, we see the deep need for a time of rest, reflection, and integration, and by standing fully in the darkness we can prepare ourselves to see more clearly in the light. As Martin Luther King said in his day, “Only in the darkness can you see the stars.”
