People often think of mothers as nurturers and caregivers. But systems of punishment and violence can interrupt the act of mothering. We can learn from the experiences of incarcerated women and parents who imagine a world without these systems. What might happen if we allowed ourselves and others to fully explore our capacity for imagination and change?
