Annual Pledge Drive

              2024 – 2025

The Unitarian Church of Montpelier is financially autonomous. We have no diocese or umbrella organization to support us. During our Annual Pledge Drive, we ask our loving community to pledge a financial commitment for our next fiscal year.  Pledges typically represent 80% of UCM’s total income.

This year’s Pledge Drive runs from Sunday, February 25 through Sunday, March 17. As we begin the Annual Pledge Drive to support UCM’s budget for the next fiscal year (July 2024-June 2025), we face what everyone faces: rising costs. They are part of larger systems that may feel inadequate, unjust and unaccountable.  Other costs, like that of fairly compensating staff, are part of how we care for the wonderful people who are so instrumental to this community.

The creation and review of UCM’s budget is an ongoing process that occurs at the same time as the annual pledge drive.  Our financial goal for the drive is $382,000, a 5% increase from the previous year.

We recognize that our congregation is a mixed-income community and are so grateful for the generosity of pledges of all amounts.  With all of us contributing as generously as possible within our means, we are confident we can meet our budgetary needs.

Suggested Fair Share Contribution Guide

The Stewardship Team has offered the Suggested Fair-Share Contribution Guide for the last few years to help you discern your pledge amount. It is a tool rooted in personal choice and equity – there is no single pledge amount that is prescribed for all.  Please take the time to read this, even if you do not end up using it to calculate your pledge.  It guides you through the process of determining your adjusted monthly income and offers ranges of pledge amounts accordingly.

Last year, approximately 48% of pledgers identified that they used the Suggested Fair Share Contribution Guide to help them determine their pledge.

During the spring 2023 pledge drive, UCM received 196 pledges.

For the last 5 years, the average has been 190 pledges.

For the last several years the median pledge has been $1,000.  (This means that half of the pledges made are above $1,000 and half are below.)

Last year the most common pledge (also known as the mode) was $1,200.  This represents a pledge of $100 per month.

Last year the average pledge was $1,869.57. This is calculated by taking the total amount pledged and dividing it evenly by the total number of pledges.
